Commercial Gate Installation Condition Report
A commercial client called us to undertake an Electric Gate Installation Condition Report on one of their sites in Newton Aycliffe. This 8.3 metre wide cantilever sliding gate had a severely damaged motor housing, lots of exposed current carrying conductors, IP breaches and did not meet the standards of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
Taking approximately two hours to complete the visual inspection, we looked at everything from the electricity suppliers cut-out to the consumer unit, earthing provisions, local points of isolation and cable routes before we began to look at the gate itself.
We then assessed whether the installation had satisfactory safety features for the type and nature of the installation. Here we looked at photocells, digital encoders and safety edge controllers.
Once we had assessed whether the basics met current regulations such as BS7671 Wiring Regulations we moved onto the inspection of the physical structure of the gate before we inspected the drive gear and control electronics.
All data is backed up with photographs and a final report is written up and submitted to the client with our recommendations.
This site was informed that a new motor and control board complete assembly was required and the addition of Safety Edges to the gate.
