Locked out!
A customer called and requested that we send out an engineer as the gate at this property had stopped working.
Installed by a different gate automation company who were not accepting the customers calls, left our customer in a tricky situation.
Upon investigation we were able to see that the gardener had accidentally cut the cable to some sensors whilst he was cutting the hedges. The cables were unacceptably installed, with the wrong type of cable and no containment in place for mechanical protection. A quick repair of the cable got the gate working for the customer and a report was issued, including suggested remedial works and highlighting the lack of safety devices on the system.
A separate pedestrian gate would have allowed the customer to enter the property by foot, and manually release the motors, enabling manual operation of the gate.
